The Day My Doctor Said ‘It’s Normal at 41’
And Why I Fired Him and the Entire Medical System
Two acts that turned me into
the CEO of my own health.
Act 1 – The Back Pain That Wasn’t “Normal”
In Fall 2004 I was experiencing constant lower-back pain that robbed me of sleep and turned every desk chair into torture.
So, I did the ‘sensible’ thing and went to a Dr. He looked at my back and checked my movability but had no clue what could be the problem. X-rays were clean, MRI was clean.
There was absolutely no indications whatsoever that something was wrong.
In the end his statement was: “Joe, for a man in your age who is sitting in an office regularly, it’s quite normal to experience some back pain.”
I went like hmmm … and was thinking to myself: You gotta be kidding me, I am barely 41 years old.
Then I mentioned my discolored, deformed big toenail. His fix? “I’ll just rip it off; it’ll grow back nicely.” (Yes, these were his exact words).
If you’ve ever left a doctor’s office more confused than when you arrived, you already know where this is going … I politely thanked him for his time and left … to never be seen again.
It was obvious. A traditional (big pharma trained) Dr was a dead end and thus I looked for a more specialized one. Luckily, my girlfriend knew somebody and even got me an appointment. This Dr was a back pain specialist and trained in TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine).
I arrived at his practice shook his hand, and told him that I have a permanent pain in my back. Without missing a beat he looked me deep into the eyes and told me to lay down on his examination table.
Naturally, I assumed I should lay down on my stomach, but no, he ordered me to lay on my back. After about 10 seconds of abdominal physical examination he asked me: “When did you stop your antibiotics treatment early?”
I was like, “I am sorry, I did what?”
But he was right, about a year earlier I had indeed cut one of my fingers – deep and had received antibiotics … which I had thrown out before I had used them all … ooops!
He then went on to explain that I had systemic candida overgrowth … it had spread from my gut throughout the body and was responsible not only my back pain, but also for my toenail fungus.
He prescribed a drug called Nystatin + a 90-day zero-sugar, zero-yeast protocol.
Lo and behold, the back pain cleared up and disappeared. The toenail took a bit longer but after maybe 6 to 9 months it finally cleared up too … completely painless
That victory bought me lots of relief—and a dangerous illusion: I was now savvy enough to handle anything.
I wasn’t.
Act 2 – Breast Cancer: No Choices, Just Fear
In June 2006 my girlfriend found a pea-sized knot in her breast and was subsequently diagnosed with breast cancer … a truly shocking diagnosis that hit us like a sledge hammer.
We both were rather ill equipped for this … and I doubt that anybody ever will be … for such an announcement. The only thing I sort of ‘knew’ is that chemo therapy is an undesirable thing, because it kills everything in the way. The literal meaning of antibiotics is ‘against life’ … Chemo takes this concept to an entire different level.
Chemo is designed to kill everything that might be cancerous and ‘hopefully the patient survives’. So we both agreed that we try to avoid that at all costs.
The problem with a cancer diagnosis is that you are being placed immediately in a very powerful system that takes complete control of you. These people are very professional in what they do. Their mission is to extract the most of your health insurance (and she had the highest level of insurance).
They told us that she MUST be operated immediately. Only in this way can they cut out the cancer, cut out parts of the lymphatic system and check if the cancer had spread further.
I was very skeptical and asked for options? Alternative treatments? They gave us zero choice … it was like: “Get the operation done or your girlfriend will most certainly die.”
These people trade in extreme fear and their objective is total overwhelm. The patient should accept their treatment plan ideally without any questions.
They gave us neither a choice nor time to think it over or to do additional research. It was rush, rush, rush … operate NOW, NOW, NOW!!!
So, with a heavy heart, we agreed.
The OP went well and they found that the cancer hadn’t spread and things looked ok. But they had amputated one breast (mastectomy) and taken out a big chunk off the other (partial lumpectomy) which was later improved with plastic surgery.
As she was healing and got close to the release date, she got a final visit from the Dr. Professor of the Oncology. Luckily I was just there.
This guy was a picture perfect cliché: Long flowing hair, a Porsche 911 Turbo in the reserved spot … the whole works. Very smooth and jovial.
So I asked him some pointed questions:
What is the root cause for this cancer? … “We don’t know”
What can we do to make sure the cancer isn’t coming back? … She’ll get a new (revolutionary) treatment that is better than Chemo
Any dietary recommendations? … Blank stare
… and so forth.
He answered every single question with completely meaningless no answers. As longer this went as more it became clear that these people have no clue what cancer is and what causes it.
ZERO clue.
But I am not someone who gives up that easily and I kept pushing the issue and cornered him.
After maybe 30 minutes of this he gave up the charade. His exact words – verbatim – they still burn in my mind to this day:
“Joe, we don’t know what causes cancer. We don’t know if it will return. But if she’s still alive in 10 years, statistically she has beaten it.”
Epilogue – These are The Lessons Burned into My Brain
- Cancer is a symptom of what is called terrain failure – the body experiences inflammation, insulin resistance, immunity failures, toxins and parasites. Only 5–10 % of cases are purely genetic (National Cancer Institute, 2023).
- The system monetizes fear and compliance – average breast-cancer treatment billing in Germany: €78,000 (IGES Institute, 2022).
- Prevention? No interest because it’s NOT billable.
You are the CEO of your body – do NOT trust blindly. Instead ask for the Evidence? What are the Incentives and for whom? And what are the Alternatives?
