I still remember the sentence that shaped my entire understanding of health:

“No cancer cell can live in an alkaline, oxygen-rich environment.”

My mother, born in 1936, used and followed that line like a prayer. She had started her working life as a registered nurse in post-war Germany … long shifts, endless heavy lifting of patients, no proper ergonomics. Already by her late 20s her back and joints were wrecked. Conventional medicine offered painkillers and eventual surgery. She refused. She fought chronic pain and structural damage for decades, but her mind? Razor-sharp until the very last day. She passed away two years ago at age 87 (a truly astonishing accomplishment considering all the challenges she had to endure). Otto Warburg – The Man Who Saw Cancer’s Weakness

In 1931 Otto Warburg won the Nobel Prize for showing that cancer cells switch to fermentation even when oxygen is plentiful (the Warburg Effect). Tumor tissue is highly acidic. Healthy cells forced into fermentation dedifferentiate (meaning the cell loses its specialized characteristics and reverts to a more primitive, less specialized state) and start behaving like cancer.

His conclusion:

damage the respiratory chain (which is responsible for the energy production inside the cells) →
loss of oxygen utilization →
fermentation →
acid waste →
malignancy = cancer

Warburg’s insight was that cancer thrives in an acidic, low-oxygen environment and cannot maintain its cancerous properties when proper respiration is restored.

Maybe you have heard about Dr. Robert O. Young through the media. A few years ago, the FDA and the MSM waged a literal war against this man, vilified him and then threw him in prison. Why? Because he advocated people to use avocados and salad and green juices to alkalize their bodies to prevent/cure various dis-eases (yes, he coined that term) such as diabetes, cancer and auto-immune disorders

Using the Warburg Effect as inspiration, he studied live blood and the fluids in between the red blood cells (called Interstitial) for over three decades, documenting in real time how diet and lifestyle shift the internal environment from sticky and acidic to clean and fluid.

His “New Biology” (detailed in The pH Miracle series and beyond) boils down to this: We don’t catch diseases; we create the conditions in which microforms (bacteria, yeasts, molds) overgrow and tissues break down … hence dis-eases. Over-acidify the terrain with poor food, stress, and shallow breathing, and the body starts robbing alkaline minerals from bones and organs to buffer the acid.

Eventually the system decompensates, meaning: When you eat junk, don’t move, and breathe shallowly for years, your blood turns into syrup, forms little clots, stops delivering oxygen properly, and your body slowly rots from the inside. Cancer is just one possible endpoint.

Young is crystal clear that you can’t swing blood pH like a pendulum with a few lemons … blood is buffered at ~7.365. What you can do is reduce the acid load so the body stops having to steal minerals from itself. The proof shows up in first-morning urine pH, in live-blood analysis, and (most importantly) in how people feel and heal.

I had the honor to meet this man in person about 15 years ago. Simply put, he is a genius. And while he is a wonderful and kind hearted man … he’s also truly uncompromising. He went to prison because he wouldn’t budge to the pressure to denounce his own research and beliefs. He very much knows what he is talking about.

Now, I am not someone who gets gushy about meeting a prominent person. Sure, I listened intently to him, made a selfie or two but then I went down the rabbit hole myself. As the saying goes, the proof is in the pudding and thus I had to test all of his strategies myself.

1. Cut the major acid-formers: refined sugar, white flour, pasteurized dairy, factory meat, alcohol, nicotine, chemicals from vapes and energy drinks, coffee, soda and seed oils.

2. Flood the body with alkaline-forming, electron-rich foods: leafy greens, celery, cucumber, broccoli, avocado, lemon/lime, pomegranate, almonds, chia, quinoa.

3. Chlorophyll daily such as wheatgrass shots, spirulina, chlorella, wild greens. My mom swore by fresh nettle juice in spring.

4. Move the lymph (rebounding, walking, dry brushing, sauna) … acids exit mainly through urine and sweat.

5. Breathe properly. Most people are in chronic low-grade hypoxia (meaning not enough oxygen reaching the cells or tissues). Deep diaphragmatic breathing is free medicine.

6. Test yourself: first-morning urine pH strips. Below 6.5 consistently = you’re asking for trouble. 6.8–7.8 = the body is happy.
